There is no doubting the fact that Holidays to Mauritius top most people’s wish lists when it comes to things they would like to do. This has a lot to do with the beautiful scenery, pristine white beaches and luxury hotels Mauritius has in abundance. With so much beauty all around, you might be surprised to know that Hollywood has taken until 2017 to shoot its first big movie in this idyllic location.
On Friday 7th July, the launch ceremony of the filming of Hollywood movie Serenity took place. The event was hosted by the Board of Investment at one of the luxury hotels Mauritius is famed for — Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa.
The ceremony was attended by the prime minister of Mauritius and his family as well as stars of the movie, Matthew McConaughey and Diane Lane. Various other VIPs were also in attendance including government ministers, other cast and crew of the film, and CEO of Maradiva Resort Mr Sanjiv Ramdanee.
While tourism is by far the biggest sector in the economy of this wonderful island nation, the filming of what could potentially be a Hollywood blockbuster will do even more to put Mauritius on the map and undoubtedly make holidays to Mauritius even more popular.
The Appeal of Mauritius for Holidays
The location of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean makes it a much sought-after destination for luxury holidays. With a plethora of five-star resorts with plenty to offer in terms of rest, relaxation and pampering, Mauritius has become synonymous with chilled-out luxury. However, there is so much more to Mauritius than just stunning white beaches and luxurious resorts.
To really appreciate Mauritius and all it has to offer, it is important to get out and about and see more of the island nation and the people who live there. While the country is probably best known for its white sands and clear blue waters, Mauritius is also home to some of the world’s rarest species of animals.
Living in the many rainforests and reefs are some truly amazing creatures, and those who visit this part of the world should not even consider returning home without seeing some of them. Day trips to some of the country’s national parks are the ideal way to see the most spectacular views as well as the indigenous wildlife. For those who want to catch a glimpse of bright and colourful marine life, snorkelling and scuba diving opportunities are available throughout Mauritius.
Getting out and about and talking to the locals is also highly recommended. While the resorts in Mauritius are so exceptional that you may never want to leave, visiting local towns and villages will ensure you really do have a holiday to remember.
