A Fabulous Vacation in Malaga, Spain

Malaga is a city in Spain that is on the Mediterranean Coast and it is one of the oldest cities in the world. The city itself was founded in 770 B.C. and the history and traditions from those times are still evident today. There are many places to visit while on a trip to Spain. The following are some ideas for a Spain itinerary.

One of the first places that a person should visit in Malaga is the Catedral de Malaga. This cathedral was built back in the 16th century on top of a former mosque. The high ceilings enhance the beauty of the inside and the nave is where a cedar-wood choir can be seen. Spectacular views of the city can be found when a person climbs up the 200 steps to the top of the tower.

Picasso was born in Malaga, so it should not come as a surprise that there is a museum dedicated to him in the city. Inside the Museo Picasso are 204 pieces of Picasso art. Some of the artwork includes paintings of Picasso’s family and the most popular of the family portraits is the one of Picasso’s eldest son that he did in the 1920s. Before leaving the museum, people will want to venture down to the basement to see the archaeological remains from the Phoenician, Roman, Islamic, and Renaissance times. These remains were discovered when construction was being done on the museum.

Alcazaba may not be as wonderful as the Alhambra in Granada, but it is nothing to dismiss either. Visitors wander amongst the jasmine bushes and orange trees until they reach the fortress that has been around since the 11th century. Some of the highlights of a visit to this castle are the caliphal horseshoe arches, the courtyards, and the numerous fountains.

Malaga may not be Barcelona, but it is a fabulous city in its own way. People will enjoy walking around discovering historical sites and well, they may even uncover something that others have missed over the years. Imagine being a visitor in a country and being able to uncover something that hasn’t been seen in over a century or more.

If you are planning a trip to Spain, make sure you visit the mentioned cities as you will not regret it.
